How to Build a Targeted Email List From Scratch
There are a lot of methods talked about that can be used to build the list, but unfortunately, in order to use these methods, you first have to HAVE a list! A small list of even 250 would do, but my question is how do you go from a list of ZERO to 250? How do you get your first hundred? In fact, how do you get your first TEN?!
There has to be ways for the total beginner to start building his targeted email list from scratch. I have read a million articles titled: How to build an email list – and it seems that they describe methods and tricks that will definitely get your list to grow. . . But they leave out the part about how to get those first few names.
Gee, once I get 250 names, there will be plenty of ideas and advice. But for now, I’m treading alone in dark waters.
Finally, I came across the best way to accomplish this targeted list building. Remember the list is pretty useless if it is not a targeted email list. So any ideas of going out and buying your traffic is bad, bad, bad. This has to be a special list of people, targeted in my niche, not just anybody.
The best way to build an email list is writing articles. It is very effective, but time-consuming. However, in my case, time is something I can afford! That is the beauty of this FREE method. You write several articles about topics in your niche, and then distribute them to what are called “article directories”. The people that are interested in your subject will be the ones that read them. This is how you are targeting a certain audience.
At the bottom of each article is the signature box. This is where you are allowed to have a link back to your website that people can follow if they are interested in more information. It’s important to use the signature box as a call to action, so they will click back to your website. And that is how they see your offer in exchange for their email address.
And the list begins to build, one by one. And to think, all the big gurus with their lists of 50,000 and more, had to start, once upon a time, with getting their very first subscriber, just like this.

I agree with your comments it can be very hard to build a mailing list when your starting out in any niche.
Personally I entered reports into giveaway events to get my first subscribers. As long as you enter a report that is relevant to your target market you will get subscribers in no time at all -even if you’re a total newbie.

hey lyne, great post. Well this really is the biggest question that all people starting online ask. theres just so many ways but your right, the hardest is getting that first 100, once uve reached that then u can really start building your list, using adswaps is a really good way.
I think one of the best ways when first starting is jv giveaways.

Another way to go from 0 to 250 is to get involved in giveaways. Giveaway a free product and if people pick it up, they become your subscriber.
